Saweetie + G. Herbo Talk Mental Health For Men on Icy University: WATCH

YouTube

Saweetie stay workin’ and doin’ her part to spread the knowledge with her class sessions web series Icy University. She’s talked business, confidence, and now mental health with new episode guest, rapper G. Herbo, where they discuss why mental health matters for Black men. “I was my own therapist,” he says about music, “I talked about the things I’d seen, I experienced, you know, my day-to-day struggles and the trauma that I’d been through. So I just felt it was important as I grew as a man and as an artist to talk about it because I grew my fanbase off that, you know? I didn’t wanna be misunderstood, I just wanted to be able to like, speak my truth and it all went back to you know, mental health.”

Herbo, who has spoken out about his PTSD, launched a mental health program last year called Swervin’ Through Stress: Tools to Help Black Youth Navigate Mental Wellness, which assisted in bringing free therapy sessions and other resources to Black communities. His new LP, 25, was released July 1.

I respect this man so much for being one of the only male rappers out here strongly speaking and working to help other young black men with their mental health and the episode was very insightful to listen in on, especially from a young black man’s perspective.
